I have found that I am a creature of habit.  It has always been in the back of my mind, but I have never really thought that much about it.  That is, up until I had the opportunity to think about…read: been unemployed.

What brought this to light was my microwave.  Not that I use it all the much, but there are certain things that I use the micro for on a daily basis.  Such as warming up water for coffee.  I use a french press as opposed to using a drip coffee maker.  And rather than heat the water up in a pan, I toss it into a 4-cup measuring cup and hit 4 minutes.  Easy.  Simple.  The thing I noticed, though, was that if I put the handle of the measuring cup in a specific position, at the end of the 4 minutes the handle is right there for me to grasp.  No having to rotate the cup to get the handle convenient.

An amazing discovery, don’t you think?  It is when you consider how many things such as that we take for granted.  And that with that information in hand, or head rather, I know how to position items in the micro to make it easy and safe to take out.

And that is just one little example.  Think of all the tools, and toys each of us has in our homes.  And even though we buy new things to make our lives easier, we all inevitably end up using those items that we have had for years.  Regardless of anything else.  Because it is comforting.

Because of habit.
