How often do you say this to yourself? Usually in relationship to something we want to change about ourselves. Lose weight, save money, start exercising, whatever change it is that you want to make in your life.
And it always ends up as if we are making some sort of deal with the devil….
Tell you what, self….if I do THIS…you let me have THAT.
Why do we feel the need to make deals with ourselves?

Personally, I think a few things come to mind. First, there is inertia. As we mature, it seems more and more difficult to take action which may benefit us in the long term, but cause pain or displeasure in the near-term. Secondly is the issue of self-discipline, or lack thereof. This may seem to be the same as inertia, however self-discipline is more of a choice; inertia is more something that acts on us. Finally, Tony Robbins, the author of “Awaken the Giant Within”, says we will endure the pain of doing something only when it is perceived as being less than the pain of doing nothing.
