Unfortunately, you can’t.

Because we are in a constant state of judgement. We judge everything. That is how we decide what we like, and what we don’t like. From the food we eat, to the clothes we wear we are constantly judging what is going on in our world. There. We have that out of the way. Judgement, and judging is how we interact with our world and with one another.

Now let’s talk about freedom of speech.

Or rather, Freedom of Speech. Gotta get those capital letters in there to make sure that you understand that I am going to be talking about something important.

You, and I, along with every other person has the right to think, and say whatever it is that we want to say. Period. I don’t have to agree, or like what comes out of your mouth no more than you have to like what comes out of mine. If it comes down to it, as I keep seeing in the news and on FaceCrack, we can stand nose to nose yelling our positions at one another in the hopes that one of us is going to change their mind.

And we know that that isn’t going to happen.

Force usually is the end result of such an exchange. You do what I want because you are forced to, and vice versa. But all that changes is the behaviors…..it ain’t gonna change what is inside our heads.

You don’t change minds by constantly finding the points of division. You change minds, and come to agreement by finding the points of common understanding. To hammer the points of division over and over only causes more division.

And with that being said, I do want to know what you have to say about the world around you. I do want to learn more and I can only do that be experiencing things from other view points.

All I ask is that you do it in a reasonable tone of voice. And don’t point out all the points of division, let’s talk about where we agree also. ‘Cause I like you, and I respect your opinion.

Friends?
