I have a hard time sleeping on the road.

Truth be told, I have a hard time sleeping period. I take melatonin to get me to sleep, and then I always wake up after 3 or 4 hours and toss and turn from there.

This last night I was having a vivid dream in which I was trying to convince  a friend that they needed not to keep a meeting with some folks because they were going to be killed. It was a classic political intrigue scenario where my friend had gathered some intelligence that was damaging to people in power.

Don’t know where the plot came from, all I know is that it kept me in an uneasy sleep and I woke up with a blinding headache, and feeling like all kinds of crap.

So…what does this have to do with the price of tea in China?

Long story short I didn’t go to work tonight. Which meant that I am sitting here waiting for my headache meds to kick in…and in doing so I am watching tv.

And a line from the show I am watching just struck home with me.

“You were never here.”

Am and thinking that that line pretty much sums up my divorces and failed relationships.

I was never there.

I mean really there. I was working tons of hours, and worrying about paying bills and the like. But I was never really there for my wives and kids.

Sobering thoughts during a migraine.
