This is the first, and possibly the last

I was tagged by Lynne of The Sewing Mom to do this interesting alphabet meme.

Rule #1: Copy all the links below and replace a single link under the appropriate letter of the alphabet. If your domain name, or even the title of your blog, starts with an “A,” you’d replace the link under that letter and put the replaced link at the bottom. Also, don’t forget to credit the tagger, or where you got the list from, at the end of the list with a full URL of the post so that a pingback gets generated.

Ok, so I was wrong.

Imagine that.

Margquette Michigan already has a brewery.    The Marquette Harbor Brewery, to be exact.

marquetteharborbrewery.jpg

And from what I see of their offerings, I am going to have my hands full taking them on.  But I think that I am up to the task.

At least as long as I am sitting here dreaming of opening a brewery in Marquette, Michigan, competing with Marquette Harbor Brewery.  And not really doing it.

At least for now.

Namaste.

So, I forgot to tell you

I got my shaggy butt out of bed this morning after the girls had headed off to school.  As I was walking through the living room to the kitchen I noticed a police car go by with its lights on.  And no siren.  Then another one went by.  Same thing.  Then another one went by.  Hmmm.  Things were getting interesting on our little slice of the world.

Decided that I needed to find out what the heck was going on.  But thought that since I was going out, I might as well take the recycleables.  Grabbed them, and headed out the door.  Stepped off of the slab that is our porch, and promptly fell on my ass.

Or back, actually.  It had to have been entertaining as I did the stereotypical feet up into the air, land flat on the back.  The good thing is that I had the presence of mind to hold my head forward so that I didn’t smack it.  That would have been not good.  I am loopy enough as it is without adding a closed head injury to the mix.

Surprisingly, I am not all that sore lo these 5 hours later.  Of course I went to the gym right after, and stretched out pretty well.  And then worked my back and Bi’s.  And since I have been home I have been moving around quite abit.  Maybe I just have not let my old bones to get achy.

I hope.

You should have been there with a video camera.  It would have been worth it.

Namaste.

Tuesday I brew!

I mentioned somewhere, I don’t even remember where now that we are talking about it, that I was going to brew.  I haven’t brewed beer since last fall.  Not this last fall, LAST fall.  Like in 2006 Fall.

That is a freakin’ long time ago.  So, it is high time that I brew.  And seeing that my eldest son is turning 21 on Tuesday, I will be brewing this lastest concoction in his honor.

It will be a coffee ale.  Coffee, cause of a reason that I will not write about now.

But that is what I will be brewing on Tuesday.  Dodd’s Legacy Coffee Ale.  Vintage 2007. It will be ready to drink in about 8 weeks.  Send your orders in with cash or money orders.  No checks, and no plastic.

Namaste.

Please do not send in the clowns

Let’s just get one thing clear right from the get go.

I am not a fan of scary movies.

I talk about the zombies in the park out behind our house, but I am not one to watch them on a movie. They are just way too creepy. That being said, MLW, The Princess, and I went to watch “Cloverfield” this evening. What a great movie. All of us thoroughly enjoyed it.

For those of you who don’t know what it is about, I am not going to tell you. So there. Actually, it is a cool story about survival, and how people react in a crisis. And that is all I am going to tell you about it.

Other than you should go see it.

Back to my story concerning my fear of scary movies. I even went to the extent of trying to watch the first “Resident Evil” movie the other night, to the amusement of MLW. She doesn’t get scared. I really want to watch the fourth movie in this series as it looks like just a plain ole apocalypse type movie. So, my thought process was, if I can watch the first one, I can desensitize myself to the zombies.

I didn’t work that way. I could only watch the first 45 minutes of the movie before I had to turn the channel. It was just way too gory.

Pass the salsa

1997 was the last time that I got to watch the Super Bowl with my sons.  Eleven long years ago that seem like last week.

We were all still living in Columbus, Ohio and it was a good day to be a cheese head.  I don’t know which one of us decided that we needed to root for the Packers, but after a lengthy discussion (2-3 minutes, if my memory serves me) we decided that to be true fans we need cheese heads.

Thus we set off in the truck to find a store that sold foam in big enough chunks that we could make cheese heads out of.  We never did find the foam, but we had one hell of a time in the search.  The boys and I always had great times when we were together.  We played, we wrestled, and we laughed.  We laughed a lot.  That isn’t to say that there weren’t bad time either.  There were.  There were the times that my eldest wouldn’t do his homework.  And would sit at the dining room table.  Just sitting there.  And there were the times that the youngest would get into squabbles with the neighborhood kids.  Hoodlums was more like it, but the youngest was always Mr. Sociable with pretty much anyone.

I know that we had too much junk food, and soda that day.  I know that we probably felt like we were going to yak at any given point in time.  That was one bone of contention between their Mother and I.  She always felt that I fed them too much junk food.  And I probably did.  Hell, I ate too much junk food.  And still do, if I have the chance.  But it was a good day.

Later that year, I married MLW and moved to Pennsylvania, started a life with her and The Princess.  We still watch the Super Bowl.  But we don’t eat as much junk food.  I am on a diet, MLW is very alert to what she is eating, and The Princess is caught in between the two of us.  Poor kid.  Though I have the onerous honor of being the one to have introduced her to bagels and cream cheese.  And soda.  Don’t forget soda.

And let us not forget about RavenSparkle out in Phoenix.  This daughter of mine, the eldest of all of my children, has stuck by me for all of her 24 years.  Even during the teenage years when she was not real happy with her life out there, and not real happy with her Father out here.  She is the one that is on the phone to me pretty much every week.  She is a good kid.  Love her dearly.  Can’t wait to see her the first week in March when I am jetting out west to spend some time with her and at least one of her brothers.  I would like it to be both brothers, but the youngest one tends to plan things by the seat of his skinny ass pants.  Did you talk to your Mother yet, Pierce?  When I get to AZ we are going to go to the Ren Faire out there, seeing as I didn’t budget my time correctly for the one that is here every Fall.  It will be like going to a Templar encampment out in the desert during the Crusades.  At least that is my story, and it is romantic enough for me to hang on to it for dear life.

Though, you will not be seeing me wandering around in a suit of armor.  More like a pair of shorts, and my Tevas.  Love my Tevas.  Love any shoe that lets my toes run rampant.  I will probably have to take the eldest son his Croc sandals.  He left them at the shore last year when he and his girlfriend came to spend some time with the rest of us.  I won’t be sorry to see those sandals go.  They just aren’t as comfortable as my Tevas.  Have I mentioned how much I like my Tevas?  Yeah, I probably have.

At this time of the day, it looks like the Super Bowl will be between Green Bay, and The Patriots.  I don’t know which team I will be rooting for.  I don’t know if we will be looking for foam for cheese heads or what.  What I do know is that I will be thinking about a day eleven years ago.  When the soda flowed like water, and the junk food was manna from the Gods.

Oops.  Score update, the Giants just scored again.  It is now 20 – 17 with the Giants in the lead at the start of the 4th quarter.  I wish that I was watching this on TV instead of getting updates from my cell phone.  It just isn’t the same to be filling the bread and getting a score text message.

Namaste.

Lessons in Bathroom etiquette

I have a friend.  Not that hard to believe, even serial killers have friends.  Up until the time the kill them, but nonetheless.

I have a friend.  Let’s call him “Al”, not that that is part of his real name.  Let us think of it as a tribute to a Paul Simon song with a lyric about his friend “Al”.

Moving on.

Al is having surgery on his shoulder on Monday.  Al isn’t a very emotive kind of guy.  He keeps his thoughts to himself, for the most part.  Not to say that he isn’t a talker, or a friendly person.  Remember that I stated that he was a friend of mine.  But he does like to keep things close to the vest.  He has issues that we might have the time to deal with, but I am not holding my breath.

Back to the surgery.  It is his right shoulder that he is having operated on.  We were discussing it briefly on Saturday, and it came up that he is concerned about what is going to happen when he has to.. well…poop.  You see, he is a right handed wiper.  Now, please understand that I am a sensitive kind of guy, who sees his friend in a predicament.  But this struck me as hilarious.

Especially since he told me that he has been practicing wiping his ass with his left hand.  This took me over the top, and I just could not stop laughing.

Reminded me of a woman that I worked with who, against the advice of her Dr., had both of her wrists operated on for carpal tunnel syndrome.  Yeah.  Unable to use her hands for the first week.  Her husband was not too happy about that week.

So.  Thought that I would share those nuggets, no pun intended, with you this morning.  It is hellaciously cold here in Pennsylvania.  I have to work while the rest of you are watching the football playoffs, and eating chips and dip.  Don’t forget to go here to find out how much more weight  I have lost.

Namaste.

Ok, so I have been away for a couple of days

Blame the fact that I need a paying gig to make the bank happy, and to keep the girls feed.

The Manager of the store I work at decided that it would be a great idea for the management staff to work 6 days this week.  Retail schedules are based off of labor dollars that are budgeted for that particular store/location.  It is like a check book.  You have a certain number of dollars to use.  I am in a store that has had declining sales from last year to this year.  Consequently, less labor dollars to spend.  So enters the bright idea.

I had the opportunity to work as a scheduled associate in 2 of my departments this week, on top of the 2 nights that I am always scheduled.  So that equals 4 nights this week.  Which doesn’t help the gym situation.  And I haven’t seen the girls this week except to say goodbye in the morning as they go to work/school.

Wah.

More to come.  I am putting together the story of “the Dannefell Road Tragedy each night as I am driving home.  It is almost there.  Have faith, you will like this one.

Namaste.

Driftin’ on the drive home

Thinking about autos on the drive home.  My truck needs some work.  After 238,000 miles there are some things that could use replacement, and tweaking.  I need a new EGR valve.  I could use a new clutch.  I would like to replace my shocks.  My seats are getting pretty shot.  And I think that the serpentine belt could use changing.

And thinking about all of those things, made me think about driving my parents car when I was still at home.  When I started driving, my parents owned a Plymouth Fury.  It was a 1971, I believe.

This car ended up in a swamp one night.  One terrible, scary night.  That might of included some wine, and maybe an herb or two.  But that is a story for another time.

My parents graduated up to a Sport Fury in 1976.  It was beautiful.  They took possession in April, or May, and by the time I went away to college that September somehow 60,000+ miles appeared on their car that had less than 1000 on it when they got their keys.

Somehow.  But that was what I was thinking about when I was driving home tonight.  See what happen when I can’t get involved in the music coming out of my speakers?

Namaste.

No one wants my Third World Country sized shirt

That saddens me.  I thought that for sure one of you would be able to see beyond the green appleness of its color to the inner beauty of it.

Lord knows that I never did, but I have little fashion sense.  And, truth be told, very little sense to begin with.

Regardless.  I will strive to find something else that is give away worthy in my searches within the confines of my abode.

In other words, I will find something else that I don’t want anylonger to give away.

Better?

Thought so.
