The things in my head go ’round and ’round

This is my life. You can’t have it.

Doing the Ipod Shuffle

I finally did it. I think that I was the last hold out not to be an Ipod. I purchased an Ipod shuffle today for use in my truck going back and forth to where the heck ever it is that I am going.

Earlier this year I had purchased a really nice cd player for The Red Beast so that I would have music other than the crap played on local radio stations. The idea was to burn a billion cd’s and live happily ever after.

That idea crapped out when our computer absolutely refused to burn cd’s. Even though it is supposed to be able to do that. I could have reached out to my friends and begged, and bribed them with Dodd Family Legacy Beers, but that didn’t work out either. So today The Princess and I, yeah she is home from school again after going to the Dr. this morning, went out and did the good consumer thing and spent some cash. Cash that I got from dividends on an insurance policy that I have on myself, and the girls. Sounds like a Monopoly game, doesn’t it?

Moving on.

Now I have this piece of plastic that holds 1 gig of music. I have 145 songs on it now. That is the equivilent of 14 cd’s. Awesome! Of course this means that I am going to be spending time setting up folders with fav songs in them so that I can download them whenever I want to.

Great. Something else to waste time on.

The Best Part of Living Here

Every city has their group of musicians. Rock and rollers, rhythm and blues singers, and those who do both well.

MLW introduced me to one of the duo you are going to see video from when I moved here to Mechanicsburg 11 years ago. Glen and his wife went to school with MLW, and both still live here in the barrens of central Pa.

Listen and appreciate one of the reasons it is nice to be here.

And one more to add to your collection of singer songwriter music that is more than worth listening to.

More Forgiveness

I don’t care how old I am, or where I happen to be. This is how I feel :

GMA Hosts a Jo Bro Show

The Jo Bros not singing solo down in Soho while playing dobro, with J-lo watching as she eats a Ho-Ho outside of a Ho-Jo trying to stay on the down low.

Don’t cha know.

Yeah, I am getting really tired of it also. In talking to MLW the other night I found out that she had some Jo Bro drama go on when her and The Princess were at the Jo Bro concert the other night. Seems that some Mom thought that she could weasel her way in between MLW and the space the MLW had staked out for The Princess and her friend.

Bad Move. Really bad move. MLW is not a nice person when you get between her, and her cub. I found this out early in our marriage. We were at a family picnic, and something happened to The Princess out on the lawn. MLW was a few yards away from her, and heard her crying. I happened to be in the space between MLW and The Princess. I got moved. Pushed, shoved, whatever you want to call it but at one moment I was in one place, and then in the next I was about 6 feet away. And I am not a little person. I learned that day to make sure that MLW always has a clear line of vision and motion between her and The Princess.

Anyway, Security was called and arguments ensued. No restraining orders were issued, and no bail needed to be set so I figure “no harm, no foul”. I find it amusing, though, that a Mom would try to be that way with another Mom. I thought that that crap was always left up to Dad’s.

These are the things in my head

For Tuesday.

The things in my head:

I need to get a digital camera for myself. MLW has hers. The Princess has hers. I need one of my own. There. I said it, and I mean it.

Now if only I had the money to buy it.

Sigh.

We are leaving for North Carolina this coming Saturday. We should be leaving early Saturday morning, but due to circumstances beyond my understanding, I have have to work for part of the day on Saturday. That being said, MLW and The Princess along with her sidekick will be picking my up from work and we will be jetting down the freeway at warp speed.

If you are heading south on 95 this weekend, just get out of the way. It will be fine.

Which leads me to “The things that WILL NOT be in my head”. Namely music. I have been rhapsodizing about Ipods and the such lately, but in truth I have none. Again, MLW has hers, and The Princess has hers, but me? Nada. Zilch.

To be upfront, MLW did offer to purchase one for me not long ago and I demurred. I have my CD player for my truck, I figured that I didn’t need something to pour sweet music directly into my head.

I was wrong. I need something for this drive as I won’t be able to play the vehicles CD player without keeping everyone awake and bitching at me to TURN IT DOWN!!

I tend to listen to my music loudly.

So I have a couple of things to work on the next few days. Along with:

Tearing out the rest of the carpet in the living room.

Cleaning out all of the cupboards, and under the sink in the kitchen.

Cleaning out and moving the refrigerator from the kitchen.

Moving as much of the furniture out of the living room as possible.

Because while we are down in NC, gnomes are coming into our house and demo’ing our kitchen, and putting down wood flooring in our living room.

This is going to be interesting.

The Things in My Head - Thursday

The things in my head:

I have to wonder if my kids really understand that their Father…is a whack job.

Wouldn’t it just piss some people off if by some quirk, Hillary ended up getting the Demcratic nomination?

I mean, wayyyy too many folks are already talking that Obama is the one.

It makes me crazy when you try to play mind games with me. You have no idea how ignorant that makes you look, when I turn them back on your. Every time. And it is because you just are not as smart as I am. And take your check list with you.

Why is it that when I am at the edge looking over and planning that last step over, James Taylor can always bring me back. And that is disturbing due to the fact that I was listening to Linkin Park just before.

Uppmann camaroons are a relaxant on the drive home. Wonder what kind Tony Soprano smokes?

The things in my head- American Idol

The things in my head:

Is everyone watching American Idol? Right now? Do you hate the Jonas Bros. as much as I do?

Or do you love them as much as The Princess does?

Seal did not sound as good as I have heard before. But that song that he did was a favorite.

Just a few of the things going ’round and ’round in my head.

I was writing about the Apple Ipod here, what do you think about it?

The things in my head - Monday

The things that go on in my head…Walking into a corporate office building is like walking the Bataan Death March. Just watch the people around you.

I still hate commercial radio.

But transferring all of your cd’s to your hard drive so that you can burn more cd’s takes a lot of time.

The things that go on in my head tell me that it isn’t nice to not drive the speed limit. Going 45 in a 55 zone is not cool.

The things in my head want more coffee. Hazelnut, please. No cream. No sugar.

It is not supposed to be cold this late in May.

Apple Ipod Nano

Both MLW and The Princess have Ipods. MlW has the Shuffle, and The Princess has a Nano.

Both of them love me dearly, and don’t want me to feel left out, so they are trying to convince me to buy my own Ipod.

You see, I have an hours commute both ways to and from work. And hour there, and hour back. Two hours worth of driving, and the radio stations are enough to make me want to gouge my eyeballs out on a good day. I am also not sold as of yet on Sirius, though I have friends who love it.

More on that later.

I am on the fence with the whole Ipod thing. But I like to jump around too much in my tastes. What I want to listen to now, may not be what I want to listen to later. And then there is the whole backing up of the music that you bought in that one chance your hard drive on your computer dies. Then were are you? With nothing.

And I bought a smokin’ cd player for the truck last summer. It has a Ipod dock, but….

So you see my dilemma.

What do you think? For those of you who have Ipods, let me know the bennies. For those of you who think that it is a waste of money, chime in and appeal to the cheap bastard that resides in my wallet.
