The things in my head go ’round and ’round

This is my life. You can’t have it.

Archive for the ‘television’

Spam is the word of the day

I have been getting hit with a tremendous amount of spam comments lately. Wonder why? A good portion of them have to do with buying car insurance. Are any of you having trouble finding good, reasonably priced car insurance? Don’t you watch television?

Here in Pennsylvania every other commercial on television has to do with car insurance. And the one just before has to do with insurance fraud. And then the commercial AFTER the car insurance one is about erectile dysfunction. Seems that here in Pennsylvania we have a concern with people ripping off the insurance companies, finding good and affordable car insurance, and then being able to perform as needed when “the time is right”.

This is what is making me crazy today.

At home with the Jonas Brothers

We hurried up and left the beach so that we could make it home so that The Princess could watch a Miley Cyrus concert where her dream Nick Jonas would be performing with the remaining Jo Bros.

But unfortunately the Jo Bros have been a no show on the telepho-ne.

We got home with enough time to go to the store so that The Princess could buy the latest copy of The Rolling Stone, because the Jo Bros are on the front page. And to make life that much sweeter, the Brothers Jonas played at Hershey Park Friday night, and their pictures are on the front of the 2nd page.

The Princess is in nirvana.

And Sunday, the Disney Games are on. And guess who would be participating?

Come on. You can guess.

Go ahead. Come on.

Ok, I will tell you. Dream boy Nick, Cutie Pie Joe, and Jo Fro wearing Jo Bro Kevin.

So, maybe the Jo Bros are in Soho, hanging with J-lo, at the DoJo, playing Dobro, solo.

You guys gotta help me adding on to this. It is a whole lot of fun.

The Things in My Head

The things in my head are revolving around flat screen televisions.

My FIL came over last night telling me that he went out and bought this:

I want this

I am officially jealous. I want one of these things. I need one of these. I deserve one of these.

Tell me I don’t.

The things in my head- American Idol

The things in my head:

Is everyone watching American Idol? Right now? Do you hate the Jonas Bros. as much as I do?

Or do you love them as much as The Princess does?

Seal did not sound as good as I have heard before. But that song that he did was a favorite.

Just a few of the things going ’round and ’round in my head.

I was writing about the Apple Ipod here, what do you think about it?

The buffalo theory

In one episode of “Cheers”, Cliff is seated at the bar describing the Buffalo Theory to his buddy, Norm. I don’t think I’ve ever heard the concept explained any better than this:

“Well you see, Norm, it’s like this . . . A herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo. And when the heard is hunted, it is the lowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members. In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Now, as we know, excessive intake of alcohol kills brain cells. But naturally, it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. And that, Norm, is why you always feel smarter after a few beers.”

Bravo! Bravissimo!!

Have you ever noticed the programs on the Bravo network?

Top Chef

America’s Next Top Model

The Real Wives of Orange County

The Real Wives of New York City

Make me a Supermodel

What is wrong with this picture? If this was the first thing you saw on American TV what do you think your opinion would be? Or should we even care? All I know is with that lineup, I don’t have to worry about what is playing on that network.

Seeing the future as it barrels towards us

So there I am the other night, sitting on the love seat as the MLW and The Princess were in full repose on the couch. We were watching the Disney Channel, as usual. I should say that The Princess and I were watching the show, MLW was playing Mah Jong online.

Disney is an interesting channel to watch. Everything is produced to promote Disney, and nothing but Disney. There is a segment called” Getcha head in the game.” I heard the announcer say that phrase, looked at The Princess and simply asked, “Where did that phrase come from, it sounds familiar.”

“High School Musical”, came my reply.

“Interesting”, says I.

To which The Princess asks, “Why?”, as she looks at me warily.

“Because,” I say, “There must be another High School Musical coming out soon. They are already marketing it to us.”

Thats all I said. And The Princess goes crazy on me.

“Don’t. I hate it when you do that.”

“Do what?”, I ask innocently.

“I hate it when you make those broad statements like you know what the heck is going on just because you work in retail.”

“Me?”

“You. Now just stop.”

So, just to set the record straight. Check this out.

Give them little nibbles at the cheese, and then when they take the big bite, reel ‘em in.

The bad seed

Interesting. Very interesting.

This site has gone down twice today. Both times after I have written about the Emerald nuts commercials, and linked them to Chester Cheetah.

Maybe the Orangeunderground is on to me.

But the Emerald Nuts company was the first company to show their product on The Dark Side. You have seen the commercials. Robert Goulet going around a cubicle hell messing up peoples desks. Only seen by the guy eating Emerald Nuts.

Then there is the one with the Robert Palmer girls putting make up on a guy taking a snooze in the backyard. Creepy.

What is it with all of our marketing characters going over to the Dark Side? Who is next?

Cap’n Crunch? Toucan Sam? The Silly Rabbit from the Trix commercials?

And Why? Why are they doing this, and what do they want?

I will stay vigilant. You do the same.

Sunrise Earth

MLW and The Princess watch this program every single morning before they stagger out the door on their way to school.

This has to be the most absolutely peaceful program that has ever been produced. The only thing that wrecks it for me is the commercials. The show is filmed at a couple of locations as the sun comes up. And it is beautiful.

And peaceful. On Tuesday of this week it was filmed at a park in China where there were an incredible amount of people exercising. This morning, Friday, it being filmed at Stonehenge.

Granted, this isn’t for high strung folks, or people who get themselves wired up for their day. But if you are the type of person who likes to ease yourself into your morning, Sunrise Earth has got to be for you.
