The things in my head go ’round and ’round

This is my life. You can’t have it.

Archive for the ‘vacation’

Every day is a Jubilee

Jubilee Day is coming. Less than a week away.

And yes, I am already sick of talking about it. The Princess and I went to lunch today, as she is leaving with some friends to hang at the Outer Banks for a week and today was the last I would have to spend some time with her. She wants me to send some pics to her via my phone. That will cost me a bundle on my phone bill, but you know that I will do it. Dad’s do those kind of things.

It is being a hot June day here in the ‘Burg. And I am thinking of taking a nice cool nap under the air conditioner.

Namaste.

The Things in My Head – Wednesday.

The things in my head today:

The youngest son telling me that on Thursday he is going to be jumping out of an airplane.

For the fun of it.

And paying $170 for the privilege.

What am I going to do with that boy?

Here is the company that he is paying to kick him out of a plane.

I have a well deserved week end off this coming Saturday, and Sunday. And of course rain is in the forecast. I am not digging on that at all. How can I nap in the hammock if it is raining?

The things in my head want this hammock

We are going to North Carolina this year for vacation. I am thinking of investing in a camping hammock so that I won’t go through hammock deprivation while we are down there. Hammocks, along with beer, are Gods way of telling us he loves us.

At least that is my story.

Where are you going on vacation this year? Or are the gas prices going to keep you closer to home?

Let us know.

A blast from my past

I went off on a wild content tangent the other day on my other blog. I read so many blogs on a regular basis, and each one of the writers seems to have the same lament.

They don’t have enough to write about. Or maybe that isn’t fair. They don’t have enough interesting things to write about. So some of them do the Meme thing. Which drives me crazy. I don’t like Memes. They are, to me, stupid. I would much rather read an interview with an interesting person.

In keeping with the content theme, I was talking to a co-worker on Wednesday (which I kept thinking was Thursday. Must be wishful thinking, because I am leaving for Arizona on Saturday.) and I asked him why he reads my blogs. And he told me that he doesn’t read to learn anything in particular other than my view of the events that go on during my day. I was flattered. Of course, he has the same sarcastic sense of humor that I have so it is an easy match. But other than scary clowns, retail etiquette rants seem to be the biggest reader draw. That is interesting, and scary all at the same time. Interesting because I want to know what it is about these rants that folks are finding so appealing. Is it the words used to describe the situation? Is it that they can relate to the situation? Or is it that they want to see someone in a difficult situation? It’s scary in that there seem to be more and more blogs popping up talking about this very same thing. And yet the behavior continues. You would think that with more information being shared, that negative behavior would change. And it isn’t changing. Hmmmmmm.

But content is what keeps people coming back to my little slice of heaven. And content is what I am going to give you. I will be on line during my time in Arizona, talking about my fun in the sun. And when I get back I will be talking about the new beer that I will be bottling, along with the new beer that I will be making and putting in the fermenter. Some things never change, do they?

Keep a warm thought out for Spring. It has to come soon. Remember that March 9th is the day that those of us in the Eastern, and Central time zones turn our clocks ahead 1 hour. Spring ahead, and Fall behind. Remember that from school?

That all being said, I will be reaching out to some of my fellow bloggers requesting interviews with them. Small interviews. 5-6 questions to keep it simple, and we will see where it goes from there. If you like the idea, tell me so. If you don’t like the idea, tell me so and give me a better idea. I am open to what you might have to share. I am an open kind of guy.

Namaste.

The Deadliest Season

Not to be mistaken with “The Deadliest Catch” on Discovery.

This season is the Prom, and Graduation season for our kids, and us. According to folks who gather information out there, more kids are killed in automobile accidents in June, July, and August than any other time.

During this time our kids have the most time on their hands. They are traveling with their friends going to and from shopping, movies, amusement parks, work. And the more time they spend behind the wheel, the more danger they are in.

Scary words, and I am trying to scare you. Now is the time to be talking to your kids about drinking and driving. About not riding with someone who has been drinking, or taking drugs. Tell your kids to call you, tell them that they are more precious to you than a couple of hours of sleep. Tell them that you won’t make a big deal about it at the time. That can wait until later.

Tell them you love them, and you want them safe.

Make this vacation season a time they will never forget. Not one that you wish you could.

Namaste.

Time to plan that vacation

Going on vacation in July. But the planning starts now.

Well. Actually the planning started last year. Right after we got back from our vacation.

I know. We are weird like that. It starts as a thought of what we would like to do the next year. We talk about it a little. Get through the holidays, and then when January comes and we are dreaming of someplace warm, we start talking about shere we are going to go on vacation.

North Carolina. That is where we are going to go again. Oak Island.

We have been to Oak Island 4 times now, I do believe. And we love it. We get a house right on the ocean, and settle in. The sun, the wind, the ocean, the moon. There is nothing like it.

We saw sea turtles hatching last year. We had a hatching area right in front of the house. We knew it was there because of all of the signs posted telling us to “Keep Off The Dunes!!” And “Sea Turtle Nest!! Keep Out!!” We are rather intuitive in these things.

Regardless. This year we are going to a different area than where we have usually gone. Closer to town. Taking bikes for The Princess and her friend so that they can ride around and be teenagers. This is going to be weird.

Wish me luck.
