I have lived in my current abode for 15 years. The longest period of time that I have lived in any home, other than my parents.
I have never been the Weekend Squire when it comes to lawn maintenance. I am more the let it go until we might have to bring in a herd of goats to tame it kind of guy.
I have this tree in my front yard that refuses to give up all of its leaves when the rest of the trees in the neighborhood do. It is as if this tree wants to be the very last….the one to hold on to the last vestiges of summer.
One of my neighbors and an issue with this. A huge issue. You see, she was a Leaf Nazi. Yes. A Leaf Nazi.
The Leaf Nazi would sweep her driveway every day. Usually once in the morning, and then again in the evening. Especially in the fall when my recalcitrant tree would only all ow a couple of leaves to waft down. Falling ever so gently down. Smack dab on her driveway. And it would make her insane. She begged me to cut the tree down. She threatened to cut the branches that were over on her side.
And she would diligently sweep her driveway. Muttering, and cursing under her breath as she did it.
The reason that this comes up is that I was gone this last week. When I left my stubborn tree still had all of its leaves. When I got home last night I saw that they had all come down. That there was this monstrous mound of leaves in front of my neighbors house. The Leaf Nazi no longer lives there, but the couple that does tend to not like a bunch of leaves on their lawn.
Today I am going to have to get out the blower and attack what is in my yard, and get them out to the street. We are pretty lucky in that the Borough comes around with one of those leaf suckers and picks them up out of the gutter.
Saves me having to bag them up. I like that.
