Voting with your wallet.

Supporting business that is in alignment with your beliefs.

Sounds pretty simple, doesn’t it?

The only concern is that we humans have the willpower of toddlers when it comes to having what we want when we want it. Think of all the times people have proposed not buying products from a specific business in the past. Or to not purchase gas on a specific day.

I think of this every time I see someone on social media make commentary about not using the self-checkout machines at grocery stores. It is funny. For someone to believe that they are going to force a company into eliminating the scanners just because a few people don’t like them, It isn’t going to bring any jobs back. And if it did, which it never will, those jobs are at the low end of the pay scale and definitely not the jobs we need.

Same goes with the use of plastics. We love plastics. They have been a part of our culture for decades. What we never thought of, because why would we, what would happen to all of those plastic items we dispose of? Would they magically disappear? Didn’t care. It wasn’t our problem. It was someone else’s problem.

We just never thought that there would ever come a day when we, each one of us, would be that “someone else.”

Which brings us back to voting with our wallet.

Another quaint, and amusing thought. Especially when you think of all the people who are employed in the US. Do you really think that all of the folks working at the various businesses are aligned with their boss’ beliefs?

I hardly think so.

So, let’s make a deal. Shall we? You and I? Let’s no longer worry about boycotting businesses, and let us start worrying about how we are killing our oceans with all of those plastics we love so much.

About maintaining our wilderness preserves. About not killing ourselves with pollution.

Agreed?
