A House of Horrors roller coaster ride. Starting with the freaking cold, tramping along into my Daughters struggles with alcohol, and ending with the mind-numbing sameness of my days.
So, how has your week gone? Let me give you a little journey into my head….
Books…you know what is one of the things that is wrong with our world today? The proliferation of e-readers. Nooks, kindles, iPads.
The benefit of these things is they are compact, you can fit them into a beach bag, a purse, a briefcase. The negative is that they aren’t books. You can’t hold them to your nose, and smell that book smell. There is something about the feel of a book in your hands. Its heft, finding the right spot to read it in where you are comfortable, falling asleep with it open on your chest.
And let’s not even discuss paper cuts, because those damned things hurt like the devil.
Yeah it has been a hell of a week.
Was watching TV the other night….Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. Guy Fieti made a comment about a style of BBQ sauce that was incorrect. I made mention of it on my FaceCrack page. And immediately got reprimanded by a friend because I generalized. You see….there are regional styles of BBQ sauce. The one in question is from South Carolina. The Carolinas have 3 distinct types of sauce. North Carolina has two. A vinegar based sauce, and a tomato based sauce. South Carolina is most known for a mustard based sauce. This is not to imply, as I should have mentioned in my FaceCrack posting, that you can’t find any and all of the aforementioned sauces throughout the Carolinas, and the United States. What I was cackling about in my post was that a nationally known chef, and host of a cooking show mis-identified a sauce and I….little ole unknown, famous only in my own mind, noticed it and knew that it was wrong. Nothing more, nothing less.
Hate getting into pissing contests with people I like. Especially when I know that what my friend was saying is true. And especially when I just wanted to gloat for a minute. Call me petty.
Unfortunately, sugar raised it’s ugly head again in my life this week. And the consequent struggles that ensued. This is a tiring, and frustrating struggle. As a seemingly intelligent man, you would think that I could get past this. It seems to be my not-so-silent struggle. Wah.
And finally. Velveeta. The potential shortage. Along with bacon….again. It seems that we have to have a shortage of something to worry about on a constant basis. Fear seems to be the only thing that keeps us interested, and occupied. What a bunch of crap.
Which is one thing that I feel safe in saying we will never be in short supply of…….
Hey. If you want to keep reading this drivel how about hitting “Like” on my FaceCrack page. Or maybe subscribing via email. There are only a few people so far who have been brave enough to do so, so there are no worries about me selling your emails to some giant, nefarious corporation.
And even better…how about weighing in on how your week has been in the comment section down there where is says “comment.” That would be very nice.
Thank you.

My week was interesting dealing with this crazy weather. Besides that my week was wonderful. Knowing that I am loved, have people to love including my furry babies, makes my life complete. I am a content woman.

Being content is what it is all about.

It has been a long month… 🙁
Be careful with those pissing contests…unless you’re writing your name in the snow as you’re doing it…
And as for the e-reader/book thing…I think I’m in agreement with you…love my e-reader, but still love, love, love holding books. Paper…the smell, the texture, the sound of the turning page…Just got into a discussion with someone the other day…I’m so disappointed with my little town library…they have almost nothing I want to read…can do inter-library loan, but that’s kind of a hassle…anyway, I digress. The discussion was that bookstores and libraries are fading away. They’re ghosts of their former selves. Unfortunately, I agree with the fact that they seem to be fading, but I will stand and fight…I will not go quietly into the (e-reading) night. (have you ever seen “Independence Day”?…yeah. That speech. Apply it to fighting for the books and book sellers/peddlars…).

Never bought an e-reader, never received one as a gift…which isn’t that strange as I don’t get gifts from anyone to begin with. Regardless….I am a book lover. I like the heft, the feel, the smell, and the total inconvenience of holding a book in my hands as I read it. That is the only way to read.
