Doesn’t mean they aren’t out to get you….Joseph Heller.
“Fear is a fantastic marketing tool.” Daniel Gardner
I was talking to a friend earlier this morning about what I was going to be writing about today. I commented that I had beaten the Valentine’s Day theme into the dirt, and that today I thought I was going to tackle conspiracy theories. So after signing off with her I immediately immersed myself into that genre of information…or mis-information…and maybe even dis-information.
And oh boy…..that is a wild place to go…
After wandering around for a couple of hours, constantly looking over my shoulder, the biggest take away that stuck with me is that we love fear.
It is almost an addiction to fear. This winter, here in the Mid-Atlantic states the news stations are following the weather patterns like junkies looking for their next fix. And if there is a possibility of any accumulation, the weather people get all giddy with their warnings of dire consequence.
We buy guns and ammunition so that we can defend ourselves. No one is taking my stuff, and if they try I will shoot them. We watch television shows that have to do with multiple types of calamities….The Walking Dead, Revolution, Defiance. And that doesn’t even begin to discuss the books, and television programs having to do with super secret government agencies, and our being watched and listened to by the same.
Fear is big business. Fear is how we are controlled. Fear keeps us in our place, and in line.
What are your thoughts?
