The past 7 months have been a roller coaster ride to be sure.
Employed….unemployed….looking for a job…waiting to be called for an interview….going on interviews…..walking out of interviews not feeling confident….walking out of interviews wondering why you even went in…waiting for callbacks…..reading rejection emails…..lather, rinse, repeat.
I accepted a job the other day. In a field I have never worked before. Tell me that that isn’t making my head feel like it is going to blow up.
A new job. In a new city. New place to live.
Most times I agree with Gandhi. Until it comes to huge life changes. The changes I am going through right now freak me out, I have to tell you. I understand that the decisions I am making now are positive….the most positive decisions that I have made in many, many years. But it doesn’t mean that they don’t freak me a tad.
How do you react to change?
Comments, folks….comments, please….

Been there done that!
Had a stretch from 2006 to 2009 where I was unemployed for 4 months, employed for 7, unemployed for unemployed for 2 months, employed for a year, and then unemployed for 4 months. Crazy and uncertain times for a 50 something. Never been unemployed before that.
Confidence erodes to a place of questions and doubts. But once back in the saddle, once again able to be productive, confidence returns. But I constantly wonder if life has become so fragile that we all wonder about what the future will bring… and how quickly it can change. I am thankful that I was raised by a generation of parents who understood the value of hard work and honest ways. Who worked through hard times and depressive times with a positive attitude and strong faith.
You too will prevail… we hail from same region, era, ways of thinking!

A day at a time…a day at a time. That’s how you do it. No doubt you are feeling overwhelmed with all the changes in your life now. But, the fact that you acknowledge these changes as positive is wonderful/stupendous/life changing!! So, embrace these changes s-l-o-w-l-y. Don’t think so far ahead…a day at a time. The fact you are with a friend is very comforting. You are fairly used to your environs, so that is a plus. This narrows it down to the new job, and this is definitely a day-at-a-time learning experience. Do NOT let it overwhelm you. Look upon your past experiences to give you strength. This isn’t your first rodeo, my friend. You have had plenty of new life experiences in the past with relationships, jobs, moving, and the experiences your children have afforded you (good and bad). So, I’d feel pretty confident if I were you! You have had positions where you have had to acclimate. You’ve dealt with the public, for crying out loud! If that doesn’t prepare you for life, I don’t know what does!! So, go get ’em, Phil, and enjoy this phase in your life! Sounds pretty darned exciting to me!

Penny, thank you for your comment. And you are right…this isn’t the first rodeo. Just another day in the life. And life has been pretty interesting up to this point.

Mike, thank you for your comment. Life is fragile, but not to be handled with kid gloves…it is meant to be handled with a firm hand, and a mind full of imagination. And you are right…where you and I come from taught me to put my shoulder to the wheel and keep on keepin’ on.
