You would think that after having spent 35 years of my life firmly entrenched in corporate cultures, that the following story wouldn’t irritate me as it does. But it still does irritate me.
I have a cell phone account with a major cell phone company that my daughter used to use. That was up until she destroyed her last phone, and I told her that I would no longer buy her phones for her. She moved on to a pre-paid phone, and I was left with a line that I have been paying for that no one is using. It occurred to me, that I should be using that line. It only made sense to me.
I contacted said company and told them what I wanted to do. Take the existing line, sign a new 2 year contract, order a phone, add a data package and ride off into the sunset.
Seems you can’t do that. It doesn’t fit in with the way that phone companies do things. See, I can add a new line, and continue to pay for the line that I already have…..I can buy a phone somewhere else and add it to the line that I already have…..or I can buy a phone from them at full retail and add it to the existing line.
None of which fits in with my initial proposal.
I had it all worked out in my mind just the way that it made the most sense. They get money, I go from two lines down to one, everyone is happy and life goes on.
Idiots.
