May slid into June the way that it always does. A jumble of lawn cutting, backyard BBQ’s, and nights with friends enjoying warm spring evenings. It had been 4 weeks since Ralph had seen what thought he had seen. Because nothing had really happened, did it? That stuff was out of a Stephen King novel, or a Dr. Who episode. Concrete statuary did not spontaneously move around in the real world. And with those thoughts he went back to his routine.
Every morning Ralph got up, went out to the patio and stared at that cherub. Looking for anything that was different or out of place. Every afternoon when he came home he walked out to the patio and looked at the cherub. Every night after dinner he would sit out and watch the cherub. Waiting.
“Ralph. What is going on with you. I am getting concerned.” Amy sat next to her husband and put her hand on his arm.
“Is there anything that I can help you with? You have been so withdrawn lately. I’m getting worried, sweetheart.”
Ralph looked at his wife.
“There isn’t anything wrong, hon. I am fine. Really.”
Amy shook her head and said, “No you aren’t. I know you Ralph Townsend. There is something on your mind that is bothering you, and I intend on finding out just exactly what it is.”
Ralph leaned over and kissed his wife’s cheek and said, “You have nothing to worry about. I promise.”
But out of the corner of his eye, he thought for sure he saw something move by the bird bath.
