Ok. Let’s get this out of the way right now.

No ones life is going to be ruined by their working on Thanksgiving. And if you have never worked retail before, please just stop. Actually working on the holiday is actually pretty peaceful compared to the days leading up to it.

And there has ALWAYS been a store of some kind open on Thanksgiving, and Christmas, and New Years. Because there are a large number of you who just can’t seem to remember everything you are going to need to make your dinner perfect.

And let’s be realistic, kids. Not all of us live the idyllic Norman Rockwell lives where the family sits around after the meal and shares. Some of our memories of post-meal activities involve someone being blind drunk, all the guys leaving the dishes and clean up to the women, Uncle Herbie falling into a tryptophan-carb coma and farting in his sleep.

So dial down all of the “I’m not shopping on Thanksgiving, and neither should you!” rhetoric.

Next!

There is a commercial on where a young woman happily tells us of how she is “being paid to shop!”

No. Just no. When you receive a rebate from a shopping site, they aren’t “paying” you. They are rebating part of the purchase price to you. This rebate comes from the company that made the product. It is a rebate. Not a paycheck.

Sheesh. I hate this commercial.

I have already written about ugly sweaters…That Is One Ugly Sweater.

And I have covered the lights…Lighting Up With The Neighbors.

I know that I have written about the ugly ties, but I can’t find that particular link right now.

It’s here kids.

Hang on.
