Let’s play a little game of visualization, you and I. And I will even provide some visual effects for you.

But first let’s set the stage, shall we?

There is a rectangle of sand that is between the main road, and a parallel road in my development. The sand sits behind a gas station.

sand

Forget the crappy drawing, just pay attention to the subject. The gas station sits at the upper right-hand corner of this section of land. Off of the bottom left corner is another small section of sand with scrub trees on the backside, and just some weeds on the front. The rest is sand. Well, sand and a bunch of tire ruts from folks trying to drive through the sand to get to the gas station.

Like this guy:

Notice that he goes to the far right side. That is because that middle section has been churned up into nice, deep, soft sand. This little yahoo drive-through to get to the gas station has fascinated me from the first day we moved in. Why? Because the amount of people who have gotten stuck in that sand, and the amount of people who daily roll the dice to drive through the sand to get to the gas station. Rather than drive an extra 1/8th of a mile to get to the gas station via paved roads.

I have seen cars, trucks, trucks with boat trailers, and even vans stuck in the sand there. The other day a guy towing his boat got the trailer stuck, and instead of calling a tow truck called a bunch of his truck driving buddies over to get the trailer unstuck. 5 pickup trucks to get the trailer out.

Imagine the conversation. Go ahead. I’m not going to even try to write it out here. The conversation that I engineered in my head would definitely offend someone. Just suffice it to say I can’t help but believe that it started out with someone saying,

“Dude, you are a dumbass.”

Just thought that I would share that little slice of local life.

Enjoy.
