A phrase we have all heard. And possibly spoke.

Usually used when on the receiving end of a gift of socks, or underwear from your grandparents, aunts and uncles, or a friend. Could be a drug store gift, one that was picked up on the way to your party, or that last minute gift from the gas station.

I have never figured out if the sentiment is to soothe the ego of the giver, or the receiver. Either way I have been cool with whatever someone gifts to me.

Thinking about this phrase took me back to my youth….lo those many years ago, in the dark ages. The holidays, after Thanksgiving, were always spent in preparation for the Christmas performance at church.

Practice, practice, practice. Loved it. Singing in a group, harmonizing…learning how music was put together. I was in heaven….no pun intended with it being a church program….or maybe it is intended….no mind.

The culmination for me was the bag of goodies we were given after the program was concluded. A large paper grocery back of mixed nuts, hard candies, and oranges.

That one gift was always the one that meant the holidays to me…Christmas, and New Year.

Picking out specific nuts and eating them first, then moving on to the next after the previous one was depleted.

Weird thoughts that go bumping around in the head this time of year.

Tell me what your thoughts of the holiday are. Specific things that you HAD to do, foods you HAD to eat….I would love to have you share them.
