It comes and goes….
As the song says.
I remember a young man…..many years ago. Fresh out of college, still wet behind the ears. Scared shitless of walking away from the security of campus life, and his studies. Not even sure of what he had learned in 17 years of education.
This young man took a wife and promised to love and care for her. He took a position that he was not even suited for so that he could keep that promise. Thinking that he could, and would learn what he needed to know along the way.
What he had not learned was how to communicate. To listen, instead of speaking. That his way of thinking was not the way of all people. That there were different people, from different places, with different ideas, and ways of communicating.
It took this young man 40 years of successes, and failures to learn. The failures were more severe than the successes where beneficial. As is usually is the case.
This man’s biggest success was his children. They all grew healthy, and strong. Intelligent, kind, and generous. And the man, as he grew older, learned from those children. And found his life so much richer. He found peace. He rekindled friendships that he had allowed to drift away.
All that had been squandered for so many years, had not deserted him. It was just waiting to be properly used, and appreciated.
It is truly in the way that you use it, kids……
