I love meat. I love meat a lot.
Growing up my family was a happy family of carnivors. Fried chicken, backed chicken, roasted chicken. Pork chops, ribs, pork loin, ham, and bacon….oh lordy my do I love bacon. Steak, beef roast, hamburg, and sausages.
And that all came to a sudden end this year.
After discussions with my Doctor, a nutritionist, and my daughters due to my history of hypertension, and having had blood clots the decision was made, by me, to switch to a plant-based diet.
To go from a meat diet, to a plant diet has caused a bit of a conundrum. There a burger place, chicken place, rib place, or a sub place on every stinking corner. When you go plant-based you are put into a position of having to cook. Oh boo hoo, I know……there are options of convenience plant-based foods, but they are typical process foods. Loaded with salt and preservatives. Not so good for someone trying to clean up their eating.
Let me take a minute here to lament my loss of Whataburger…..
Moving on.
My life is now one of almond milk, soy yogurt, guacamole, hummus, mushrooms, cabbage, carrots, lettuce, onions, sweet potatoes, beans, brown rice, tomato and spinach tortillas, and fruit.
Let us not talk about the effects of all of that roughage……
Life takes strange turns. I am taken back to my paleo diet days of the early 2000’s. Just without the bacon.
Sigh……
