I have only been listening the the Canadian band, The Tragically Hip for just a few years. Interesting enough, I first heard the song on radio station playing during an overnight reset.
The Muse works in strange ways.
The Tragically Hip have a song titled, oddly enough, Courage (for Hugh MacLennan). The song is an homeage to author Hugh MacLennan’s book The Watch That Ends The Night.
And you just thought of me as another pretty face….as well you should.
Anyhoooo…….The song has stanza that is pretty much word for word from the book. That stanza is….
There’s no simple explanation
For anything important any of us do
And yeah, the human tragedy
Consists in the necessity
Of living with the consequences
Under pressure, under pressure
Courage, my word, it didn’t come, it doesn’t matter,
Courage, your word, it didn’t come, it doesn’t matter
Courage, my word, it didn’t come, it doesn’t matter
Courage, it couldn’t come at a worse time
What sticks with me is “There’s no simple explanation for anything important any of us do, and yeah, the human tragedy consists in the necessity of living with the consequences.”
You ever get to that point?
Continually living with the consequences.
Of course, that would be corrected with choosing better. Simple enough.

Isn’t it amazing that in a world where lyrics like these exist, the most popular songs are made up of lyrics like “baby come back” or “I think I love you” and other innocuous bits of song fluff….
Sigh.
Yes, I can see why the lyrics here would resonate so deeply within you.
Carry on with your consequences, my friend…
