Talking to a friend this morning who asked what I was going to be doing today.

“Shoulders”, I said.

“Well”, He says, “That should take you all of about 15 minutes.”

Some times I hate my friends.  I have just started lifting weights again after a long absence.  Just take my word for it….it has been a long absence.  Consequently, the weight I am lifting is quite light.  I don’t want to injure myself.  I want to build a solid muscle foundation so that I minimize the chance of injury.  Quite unlike I did in my younger days, when I injured my lateral shoulder muscle on the right side by trying to cheat a much heavier weight than I should have been trying to lift.

So for me, my shoulder workout doesn’t take me “all of about 15 minutes.”  It takes me a good hour.  I do 4 exercises using 10 lb weights.  Three sets of front raises, with 10 reps.  Three sets of side lateral raises, with 10 reps.  Three sets of a upright row, with 10 reps.  And lastly, a shoulder press with ….you guessed it..three sets with 10 reps each.

Aren’t you glad that you asked?

With all of the whining, bitching, and moaning that goes on in-between each set that is why this muscle group takes me an hour to do.

I hate shoulder day…..even though in about a month my shoulders are going to look amazing….
