It is Thursday.
Irma is scheduled to make landfall in Florida sometime late Saturday evening, early Sunday morning.
The suggested path is after slicing through the keys, to hit the southern tip of Florida, turn north and cruise up the east coast.
But that doesn’t take into account Irma deciding that New Orleans, or Mobile would be a nice place to wreak her own special kind of havoc.
What I am observing as I go about my day is people starting to stock up on non-perishable foods. Canned pasta, tuna, chili, and vienna sausage. Of course they are still buying water by the case.
The water thing is what is what interests me most….why don people go out and buy bottled water? I am filling up jugs that the tea I drink comes in. Right out of the tap, and into the fridge it goes. Soda, and gatorade are on the top of the list….along with alcohol, of course.
Grocery stores are lamenting their flagging sales as folks aren’t buying perishable items. Meat, seafood, Deli, produce…all of these departments are basically deserted. No reason to buy food that has to be refrigerated if you aren’t going to have power, no is there?
Which brings me to what is going on where I am. The weather has been beautiful all this week. Sunshine, clear skies. Temps in the 80’s during the day and in the 60’s at night. It’s hard to believe that devastation is possibly on a few days away.
I went to the gulf after work today and the beach was almost deserted. The surf was calm. The water and sand warm. Extremely peaceful.
I am making my decision as to whether I am staying or leaving on Sunday when I can see which way this bitch of a storm is going to head. If it stays on its projected path I will stay home. If it turns to the west, I am out of here. I am going to toss all of my possessions into the Rover and getting the hell outta dodge.
This old man may look goofy as shit, but I really am not that stupid as to stay and try to ride out a hurricane in the Meth Lab.
So there it is.
I will update again on Saturday.
