I have been reading the Constitution of the United States as of late.
.”Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.”
Article 1 of the Bill of Rights.
Peaceably to assemble.
Protest. To gather together to state either agreement, or disagreement with ….. something. A law, a business, another group.
I made a comment on FaceCrack the other day concerning the protesters in Michigan who gathered at the State Capital to ostensibly protest the Governor’s stay-at-home order.
Some were armed. Still don’t understand why anyone would need to carry a weapon to protest being told to stay at home so that the spread of a disease is dampened. But that is the beauty of our Constitution. I don’t have to understand, because those protesters were within their rights.
After my original post, which was derisive towards the protesters, a friend pointed out that there was no difference between the armed protesters, and a group gathering wearing genitalia-themed garb. Both groups are trying to express their opinions in the most graphic manner possible. Both groups have supporters, and detractors.
And the beauty of our system is that both groups have the right to peaceably protest.
Any group. MADD, GLADD, SADD, Nazi, KKK, Milita, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Pro-Trump, Anti-Trump, you name it.
And we can either agree with, or disagree. It is our choice. And we can either speak out for, or against. Again, it is our choice.
The beauty of our Constitution….
