Reminds me of the Aretha Franklin song, “Who’s Zoomin’ Who?”

Just in the title, mind you not in the content.

I’m sitting on the deck of the Day Walkers condo.  The condo is on Topsail Island, North Carolina.  I’m listening to some Neil Young, enjoying a couple of cigars and fine local wine while she is at a meeting.  Wonderful to have friends with great jobs, and even better living accommodations.

I am going through my emails, as we were out of town yesterday attending the 238th Marine Corp Birthday Ball hosted by the 2nd Division Amphibious Assault Battalion based out of Camp LeJeune.  I spoke about that here.

Anyhooters……as I was going through my email I came across something about a mom out of South Dakota who talked about her young children, 2 and 4, who’s main message on her blog was, “don’t be afraid to parent your kids.  They need to deal with some hardships.”  Seems a simple message, but it has brought her thousands of hits to her blog along with the accompanying criticism and praise.

I touched on the subject briefly the other day in my post, “Are Your Being Bullied, or Are You the bully?”  Bullying is such a complex matter.  I tend to agree that we have over parented our children.  I look back on my upbringing back in the dark ages.  We were expected to deal with the every day conflicts with our peers on our own.  If it came to blows, so be it.  Usually, after the initial scuffle there might be a bloody nose, or two but we then went about our business.  Some of the people I have had fights with when growing up have become friends as we have matured.  Let me make it very clear that I was never encouraged to fight.  Quite the opposite, but I was always told to stand up for myself.

Again, I think that this issue is very complex and that there is no simple answer, but I am very interested on what your thoughts might be.

Use the comment section at the bottom of this post to let me know what you feel and think.  I am very interested in your opinion.
