At the very core of my being I am a nerd. I love making things, and having people enjoy the things I make. Along the way I enjoy figuring out how to perfect recipes, and formulas..perfecting the things that I make. Doing these things soothes my restless soul.
Today I was making soap. I have a pretty simple formula that I use. I have been making soap with this formula for about 5 years now. So I know what to expect when I get everything mixed and rolling. But today, I had the brilliant idea to change one of the oils that I use. I had some castor oil in the cupboard, so I used that in place of coconut oil.
I got all the oils mixed, and added the lye…hit the switch and then was just waiting for the magic to happen in the usual 5-7 minutes when WHAM!! The soap started setting up almost immediately! What the hell? That had never happened before. But the soap looks to be amazing.
The reason that this is spilling out of my head right now is that with my impending move to North Carolina I am looking forward to feeding my inner nerd that much more. A wine bottle garden wall has been brought up for consideration.
Now we will just have to start drinking a little more wine with dinner.
And lunch.
And possibly breakfast……
And to go with the garden, I am thinking of a vertical herb garden using pallets.
And with that goes the inevitable worm farm for composting….
My inner nerd is salivating, champing at the bit to get started on these projects.
Are there projects that you like to work on that satisfy your soul? What are they? Would love to share war stories with you about them, and mine.
Comment below and chime in. C’mon…it won’t hurt you to let your freak flag fly just a tad…
