Always faithful. The motto of the United States Marine Corps. Established on Novemeber 1o, 1775, the USMC turned 238 years old today. The Corp was established to conduct ship-to-ship fighting, provide shipboard security and disciplinary enforcement, and landing force assistance.
There are currently 198,427 marines on active duty in the Corps. I can’t tell you how many retired marines there are.
The Marine Corp is the only branch of the military to fight in every conflict since its inception. The Marine Corps can trace its heritage to the British Royal Marines. During the war of 1812, the British burned nearly every public building in Washington, DC….other than the Marine barracks. It was spared out of respect.
To celebrate along with honoring the birthday of the Corp in 1925 a formal ball was held.
I have the honor of attending the ball being held for the 2nd Division, Amphibian Assault Battalion, based out of Camp LeJuene, North Carolina. Many pictures will be taken, and published.
Thank you to all active, and retired Armed Forces members. Thank you for all that you have done to protect the freedoms that we have today in the United States.
