I commented in a previous post that it was getting boring attaching numbers to these posts. And today it officially became more so.

So be it.

On a separate issue, what the heck ever happened to local news casts? I remember growing up watching the local news channels out of Kalamazoo, Battle Creek, South Bend. Unfortunately, Keeler Michigan did not have a television station. Or a radio station, for that fact. The most local radio station was WHFB out of Benton Harbor. My parents loved it. I hated it. I listened to WLS, and WCFL out of Chicago. If I attached enough tin foil to a radio antennae I could sometimes get a rock and roll station out of the west. Faintly. With a lot of static.

I wonder if I haven’t become jaded. Or rather, more jaded than I have been. I am looking for something more substantive than people who are identifying as a certain race, or a certain sex. I am an aging white male who is interested in what is going on in not only this country, but the world.

The Greek economy is swirling the bowl. The impact that that is going to have on the European Union is going to be devastating. And what effect is that going to have on the world economy? Considering some of our largest banks are heavily invested in the EU?

Regardless of which President screwed the pooch in the Middle East, there are so many things going on there that have a direct effect on all of us. All of the vets who have served in the Middle East and come home wounded in one way or another and yet the VA has drifted out of the public eye.

Is it that our attention spans can only handle 140 characters? We are only interested in the next shiny thing that comes along? And then we are on to looking for the next? That pretty much says that we are acting like 2-year olds. So many loose ends, and nothing being resolved. But major networks are spending hours and hours talking about what race a woman wants to be perceived as, and what sex a man wants to be.

Seems to fall into the category of “None Of My Damned Business.”

A water shortage in California. An area that produces 20% of the US fruits and vegetables. And floods in Texas. Yet we don’t talk about the impact that these concerns are going to have on the country. Higher produce prices, as local producers will only be able to fulfill consumer demands as long as the season runs. Shortage of specific items that have become available to us throughout the total year rather than during their specific seasons. And we do not seem to hear much of these items.

And what about the price of ice cream? Have you taken notice? I used to be able to buy a small carton of Ben & Jerry’s for $2.50 on sale. Hell, now it is $4.99 for one if you are lucky. Thank goodness, I am not eating ice cream these days.

And these truly are the days, aren’t they?
