So. How many of you are just checking in to see if I am going to follow through with this 500 words a day stuff?
C’mon. You can admit it. Truth be told, I am wondering the same thing.
I started this online writing stuff about 2007, maybe 2006. I started it all out with a blogspot site, and then started writing a blog for the online newspaper in the Harrisburg area. It was a surprise that they allowed me to do it. I took it seriously, but was rather horrible about it. I learned quite a bit writing that blog. The first thing I learned had to do with censoring what you write.
When you are writing content that a large audience is going to view, you have a responsibility to protect the people you might be using as your blog fodder. Meaning, your family. The reality of the situation is your family will provide you with a lot of content that is hilarious. And the unfortunate part is that you really can’t use it, unless you protect their identities fiercely.
I learned this the hard way by making a comment about my mothers cooking skills. A comment that my brothers thought they just had to share with her at Thanksgiving dinner. My brothers can be irritating, to say the least. I was raised in a wolf pack. Since that point in time I have stayed away from the content my family provides for me. They have their lives, and I have mine. Respect abounds.
Yippee.
Bet you couldn’t have guessed that I chewed on that title for a good part of the afternoon. Especially that “slavishly unsatisfied” part. Should it have been “dissatisfied” instead of “unsatisfied”? I just didn’t like the sound of the former, liking the latter much more as it was easier on my eyes, and rolled off the tongue that much easier. Yes, I speak the titles I am using as I am driving down the road. I like to hear the way the words sound. It helps my creative process.
Don’t judge.
One topic I was going to cover today was going to be Shark Week on Animal Planet. And one story I was going to share had to do with a family vacation to Oak Island, North Carolina….you know….where those two kids were attacked by sharks and lost limbs. But the self-censorship gene kicked in and I though that it would be tasteless to tell that tale considering what had happened recently. It still is a good story, but will have to wait for a more appropriate time.
Look at me being responsible.
This offering is going to be short of the 500 today…..I have ran over with every other post up to this one. Just don’t have much more to share today.
What a lame way to end, eh?
