Did you know, and I bet you don’t….or at least didn’t until you read this, that the average book has 250 – 300 words per page? And the the average book of 400 pages has 100,000 plus words?

I didn’t know that.

At my 500 word a day rate, that would mean I would have to write for 200 consecutive days to complete a book. Not that I am thinking of writing a book. Don’t know what it would be about. I would have to develop characters, and have them converse with one another. Way beyond my ken at this time.

I write conversationally. Like you and I are sitting around just talking about stuff. I find developing conversation between two characters to be almost as difficult as advanced math. I study, and second guess every line that my characters speak.

Would they actually say that?

Would I say that?

Is there another way that it could be said?

Is there another way that it should be said?

And on, and on, and on. I eventually end up coming to a mental compromise and try to move on.

And I still keep coming back to it. Not liking what has been written.

Talking to you the way I do is much easier on my mind. I try to edit as I go along. Try is the operant term here, mind you.

To write, you have to read. I usually have two or three books going at a time. Along with other peoples blogs. Blogs that deal with writing. Blogs that deal with life. Blogs that deal with blogging. Blog, blog, blog.

The most interesting part was that today I found my first “Writing 500 Words A Day” post on a writing blog. The person who managed to blog, can’t really say that they wrote it because it was just a collection of other peoples articles, at the very least gave me credit for my writing. That doesn’t always happen. I have had my stuff used with out proper credit in the past. In the digital world, that happens quite a bit.

This time it was very nice to be given the proper credit for the stuff that fell out of my head.

I guess that that would make it intellectual property.

Awesome.

The things that go bumping around in my head….the thoughts that keep me awake at night….the things that rattle around as I am driving down the road are intellectual property.

I could be a corporation in and of myself. Me. Phil Corporation. Phil Corp. Now I have to think of what the appropriate name of my personal corporation should be.

Dodds R Us?

PD Productions?

The possibilities are endless. And with those different variations the work of trying each and every one on for size. Seeing if it fits. If it aptly describes…me.

Sort of like developing a conversation between two characters in a story. The words used….should they be this way or that? Would character A actually say that? Or should it be said some other way?

Decisions, decisions, decisions.

And 500 word.
