It is Friday evening and as of 8pm Irma appears to be heading for the west coast of Florida.

Maybe.

There still is the argument that she could head up the center of the state.

Or she could hit Miami and head up the eastern side.

The point being that no one knows for sure. You cannot predict a storm perfectly. There are too many variables.

And here I sit. With way too much information at my beck and call that tells me absolutely nothing. Other than I will just have to wait and see what happens later Saturday/early Sunday.

The most interesting thing I have seen has been commentary on social media judging people who do not evacuate. People being called stupid, self-centered and many more perjoratives.

There are many reasons why someone would not evacuate. Lack of transportation. Lack of a place to go. Lack of funds. Health concerns. And yes in Florida’s case Rick Scott came out and stated that all a resident had to do was to call an 800 and the state would do what it could to help. But that was only announced Friday. With the storm hitting Saturday there is no way to get everyone to an area of safety.

Judgement is not what is needed. Understanding, and compassion goes a much longer way.

Me? I have the niggling feeling of “oh shit, this is getting real” in the back of my mind. I am still waiting to see what this bitch is going to do. I am in the far western part of the panhandle and most models still show me getting high winds and rain. I can deal with that. I can’t deal with a hurricane. Nope, nope, nopeity, nope.

We will see what Saturday brings.
